How It Started

A Simple Philosophy

Robert N. Burkle founded Autac in 1947. Throughout his thirty years of running this company, his philosophy was simple — "the customer comes first."

Since the Burkle family returned to the helm of Autac in 1999, they have strived to re-implement this basic yet fundamental principle, establishing a team management approach to provide valued customers with total quality in both service and product.

Today, Autac is the second-oldest company in the retractile cord industry and the only one that is 100% woman-owned.

Marie-Louise grew up in the Autac family, literally — that's her as a little girl in the groundbreaking photo. Today she leads the company her father founded, carrying forward his customer-first philosophy while modernizing operations for a new era.

Under her leadership, Autac has maintained its commitment to American manufacturing, same-day shipping, and the kind of personalized service that only a family-owned company can deliver. Every cord that leaves the North Branford facility reflects two generations of expertise.

Autac manufactures high-quality coiled cords — often called curly cords or retractile cords — for applications ranging from test leads and power cords to cord sets and telecommunication cable assemblies. Our products are in service throughout the United States and Canada with UL/CUL approvals.

We produce custom manufactured retractile cords in a wide variety of gauge sizes, conductor counts, lengths, and colors — including clear. Choose from stock or spec out your own. Tinned copper and bare copper conductors, shielded or unshielded, with PVC, TPE, polypropylene, polyurethane, or TPR jacketing.
